Michael Compton, MD, MPH
Professor of Clinical Psychiatry
Medical Director for Adult Services
Michael Compton, MD, MPH is professor of clinical psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He is also medical director for adult services at the New York State Office of Mental Health, which is the State’s mental health authority. After completing medical school at the University of Virginia, Michael trained in general psychiatry, preventive medicine, public health, and community psychiatry, at Emory University. He served on faculty as an assistant professor, and then tenured associate professor. He was professor and director of research initiatives in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He was also chairman of psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital and professor of psychiatry at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine before he joined Columbia and OMH. Michael’s research has led to more than 200 publications. He is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
